Research

My research focusses upon discovering how to harness CNS regenerative potential in the form of neural stem cells to 1) preserve cognition across life and 2) regenerate neural circuits damaged by disease or injury.  Our projects employ culture systems and adult rodents to examine the functional integration of new neurons into established neural circuits, identify peripheral and central inflammatory biomarkers of cognitive decline that is perhaps mediated by compromised hippocampal neurogenesis and hippocampus-unique factors that promote (or at least do not prevent) neurogenesis.
